Darf das freie Programm in der 2. Runde und im Finale Bearbeitungen enthalten?
Ja.
Muss man die in der Ausschreibung angegebene Ausgabe des Hummel Concertos verwenden?
Diese Ausgabe des Hummel-Konzerts ist die einzige in Deutschland erhältliche. Die Pianistin wird den Klavierauszug dieser Ausgabe nutzen. Sie können die Faksimile-Mandolinenstimme oder andere Ausgaben verwenden, aber sie müssen mit dem Klavierauszug zusammenpassen. Sie können die zusätzlichen Kadenzen in der Ausgabe weglassen.
In der zweiten Runde wird gefordert: “ein vollständiges Werk oder vollständiger Satz einer Originalkomposition für Mandoline der ernsten Neuen Musik (keine Folklore) mit einer Mindestdauer von 7 Minuten”. Ist es auch möglich, zwei vollständige Sätze aus einem Werk (welches noch weitere Sätze hat) zu spielen, die zusammen länger als 7 Minuten, jeweils einzeln aber kürzer sind?
Nein. Das Ziel der Anforderung zur neuen Musik ist, dass ein größeres Werk gespielt werden soll. Es soll also entweder ein langer Satz (min. 7 Minuten) eines umfangreichen Werkes zur Aufführung kommen oder gerne ein komplettes mehrsätziges Werk (alle Sätze) .
Ich würde gerne in der zweiten Runde das Konzert “Raidoh” von Kuwahara spielen mit Klavierbegleitung (als Originalwerk/Satz der ernsten Neuen Musik). Begleitinstrumente sind aber nur als “Basso continuo” vorgesehen. Ist Raidoh also nicht zulässig als Pflichtwerk?
Bei dem Wettbewerb handelt es sich um einen Solo-Wettbewerb. Es soll also die Solo-Leistung im Vordergrund stehen. Aus diesem Grund wurde “basso continuo” gewählt – hier ist eine zeitliche und funktionale Bedeutung impliziert. Bei allen Werken der neuen Musik ist die kammermusikalische Verwebung zu stark. Also – nein – Raidoh (vielleicht gerade in der Aufführung mit Klavier) ist kein zulässiges Werk im Sinne der Ausschreibung.

May the free program in the 2nd round and in the final contain edits?
Yes.
Do I have to use the edition of the Hummel Concerto specified in the announcement?
This edition of the Hummel Concerto is the only one available in Germany. The pianist will use the piano reduction of this edition. You can use the facsimile mandolin part or other editions, but they must match the piano reduction. You may omit the additional cadenzas in the edition.
The second round requires: “a complete work or complete movement of an original composition for mandolin of serious new music (no folklore) with a minimum duration of 7 minutes”. Is it also possible to play two complete movements from a work (which also has other movements) which together are longer than 7 minutes, but are shorter individually?
No. The aim of the new music requirement is that a larger work should be played. This means that either a long movement (at least 7 minutes) of an extensive work should be performed or a complete multi-movement work (all movements).
In the second round I would like to play the concerto “Raidoh” by Kuwahara with piano accompaniment (as an original work/movement of serious new music). However, accompanying instruments are only intended as “basso continuo”. So is Raidoh not permitted as a compulsory work?
The competition is a solo competition. The focus should therefore be on the solo performance. This is why “basso continuo” was chosen – a temporal and functional meaning is implied here. In all works of new music, the interweaving between the instruments is too strong. So – no – Raidoh (perhaps especially in the performance with piano) is not an admissible work in the sense of the call for entries.
